Does your town have a local history museum?

I’ve noticed in my travels that one way to identify civic pride is the presence of a local history museum.  It is a fantastic resource for visitors and a way to keep residents mindful of their community’s past.  There is an especially interesting and informative article in the current issue of Daily Yonder about the local museum in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.  But before you click here to see the article, try to guess what fruit – or is it a vegetable? – that is celebrated at the museum.

Thanks to James H. Wandersee, biologist and education professor at Louisiana State University, and Renee M. Clary, geologist and educator at Mississippi State University. Their EarthScholars™ Research Group works to improve science education in schools and other venues, like these small museums.
